Bhindi posto (ladysfinger with poppy seeds)

Poppy seeds or khus khus is eaten all over India in different ways,in the north it is very often put in the spicy gravies,down south it forms avery important component of chicken preparations,while in the Eastern parts of India,especially West Bengal preparations of poppy seed pastes with vegetables like ridge gourd,potatoes,cauliflower or ladysfinger are very popular.Poppy seed preparations are all the more popular for the seeds unique flavour and cooling properties,as they form an integral part of a light meal in hot summer afternoons.I am sharing here the poppy seed preparation with ladysfinger

ladysfinger-half Kg
poppy seeds -2 heaped tablespoons
oil-2 tablespoons
green chillies-4 or as per taste
kalonji or nigella seeds-1 teaspoon
turmeric powder -1 teaspoon 
sugar -one and half teaspoon

Take all the ingredients

make a paste of the pooppy seeds and green chillies with very little water

add nigella seeds to the hat oil,allow it to splutter

add the ladysfinger with th salt and tumeric powder and saute for 5 minutes

now add the poppy seed paste 

mix well,taking care that the ladysfinger pieces retain their shape

add half cup of water,and then the sugar

cover and cook in low flame for another 5 minutes

open the lid and cook for another 2 minutes in high flame to dry up all the water or to attain your required consistency

serve with hot steamed rice ,or even parathas
